Excise Duty Rate Changes on Alcohol and Tobacco Products Effective April 1, 2026
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has issued Customs Notice 26-09, advising that adjustments to excise duty rates on alcohol and tobacco products will take effect on April 1, 2026.
The CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) system will be updated to reflect the new rates. Importers of spirits, wine, beer, and tobacco products should ensure their accounting declarations use the updated duty rates for goods imported on or after April 1.
For current and historical excise duty rate information, importers and brokers should consult the Canada Revenue Agency’s Excise Duty Rates webpage. Additional questions can be directed to the CBSA Border Information Service at 1-800-461-9999.
