Compliance Update: Toxic Substances Guide and Federal-Provincial Worker Support for Tariff-Impacted Industries

New Compliance Guide: Certain Products Containing Toxic Substances Regulations

Environment and Climate Change Canada has published a new compliance guide for the Certain Products Containing Toxic Substances Regulations. The guide applies to manufacturers, importers, and sellers of certain sealant products and products containing 2-butoxyethanol (2-BE).

Businesses involved in the manufacture, importation, or sale of these regulated products should review the guide to ensure compliance with concentration limits and labelling requirements. The guide is available through the CSCB and the Environment and Climate Change Canada website.

Canada and Ontario Partner to Support Workers Impacted by Tariffs

On March 10, the Governments of Canada and Ontario announced a joint $228.8 million, three-year initiative to support approximately 27,000 Ontario workers whose jobs have been directly or indirectly impacted by global tariffs and trade disruptions. Funding flows through the Canada-Ontario Labour Market Development Agreement.

The program targets three categories of workers:

  • Unemployed workers seeking skills training for in-demand positions
  • Employed workers in Work-Sharing agreements who need upskilling or retraining
  • Currently employed workers looking to build resilience within tariff-affected companies, particularly in single-industry communities

Primary focus sectors include softwood lumber, steel, and automotive industries. Support is delivered through Ontario’s established network of training programs and employment services, with retraining opportunities in health care, skilled trades, clean energy, and natural resources.
